Book Review: Tempted by PC Cast & Kristen Cast

Review: Tempted
Author: PC Cast; Kristen Cast
No. Of Pages: 319
Release Date: October 2009

“This blood smelled too dark. Too thick. There was too much of something in it that wasn’t human. But it was still blood, and it drew her, even though she knew the wrongness of it deep in her soul.”

Dangerous secrets come between Zoey and Stevie Rae, putting the House of Night at great risk. Stevie Rae, with her super red vamp powers, thought she could handle keeping stuff from her BFF, but her latest secret is a big one. Zoey’s left with trust issues while she needs her friends – and boyfriends – like never before.

Zoey banished malevolent immortal Kalona from Tulsa, but the battle is far from over. He now seeks power at the highest levels, and the Vampyre High Council is falling under his thrall. Without Zoey’s help, the world could still burn in the fiery hell of Aphrodite’s visions. And will Zoey’s connection with A-ya, a Cherokee maiden who tempted Kalona in ages past, help or hinder her resistance to the dangerously seductive immortal?

Two girls walk a tightrope between good and evil. And their choices will see everything they love saved – or destroyed.

My thoughts:
Ok, so I was absolutely jumping out of my skin to read this book, I got it three days after it hit the shelves. There is of course a but; but before I tell you about that but, I have been reading a lot of reviews about this book, a lot say that they were disappointed with the book. I don’t agree with them on a few levels.

The book was very well written (as all in the series are), and it carried along the story nicely, the story didn’t move very far, only a couple of days, what I do agree with them on is that it seemed a tad too “filled out” there was three hundred pages worth of book, and yet it only felt like I was reading a short story, but maybe that is just me.

Of course if you love the series, read it, as it is a very good book. But don’t read it until Burned comes out, if you have a pile of books that you want to read, stick Tempted on the bottom and don’t read it until about March or April next year (Burned comes out in May).

I’m telling you this, because I will be one of those House of Night fans who is going absolutely INSANE contemplating what will happen next, the authors left the readers hanging in a way that is borderline cruel.

It's like watching a three hour romance and in the last ten minutes you find out that you will have to wait a year until you know if they ever got together, like watching a mystery that draws you in so deeply, and then they never tell you who the culprit is, like not having eaten for months and being stuck in front of a steaming buffet and being told you have to wait until everyone else arrives. That is how badly they left us.

It was once again though extremely well written, and I recommend the series to anyone who likes the genre.

The series stopped being the Zoey show, and we got to hear perspectives from the other characters, which was excellent, and in the synopsis when it reads “Choices will see everything they love saved – or destroyed.” Don’t think predictability and that everyone is all happy at the end, when they put that line in there, literally, one girls world is saved, and one girls world is practically destroyed.

I loved the fact that the series definitely isn't predictable, usually I can work out how the stroy is going to end about half-way through, but this story keeps twisting in ways you don't expect it to which is awesome.

Very nice job on this review. This series didn't do much for me. Not sure why, just couldn't connect with Zoey. I thought you explained your thoughts very well and while I'm glad you enjoyed it, I'm sorry you were left with such a cliffhanger. I hate when that happens!

The whole House of Night series never clicked with me. I don't know why, I just don't really like books like this.
Haha, I agree with your boyfriendS problem, it annoys me too.
