Droolworthy Covers: Vampire Beach - Bloodlust by Alex Duval

Most people will get the two books in one version of this series (black cover with a rock on it). I love these covers though. They are so colourful and it seems a waste that they are wasted because the books were mass reproduced as double features. But on the other hand, who would want two books in one?

Guess who got her license!!!

I know this isnt blog related and i will post something about a book today BUT today i went for my driving test and guess what....I got them on the first try!!! Now i can officially drive by myself!!! Yeay! although after i heard the excess on the insurance premium i wont be going to crazy lol.
YEAY!!!

Covers: Are you as crazy as me?

I'm putting together my next order of books today at my online book seller. I want Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella, because I love her. But the thing is there are three versions of her book and two covers, all different costs - because some are from America, others are from England, one is from here. So which cover would you choose out of these two.

1 < = > 2
Of course I instantly wanted No.1. It's $4 dearer than No.2...

I got it anyway....I couldn't say no to that cover!!!

Am I crazy?

Have you ever wanted a book with a certain cover so bad you've paid more, or taken the time to find a shop that will sell the cover you want?

A New Way Of Book Reviewing?

My friend at work sent me this today to give me a laugh because she knows I review books. I thought it might give you guys a laugh too.

Students at a local school were assigned to read 2 books, 'Titanic' and 'My  Life' by Bill Clinton..

One student turned in the following book report,
With the proposition that they were nearly identical stories!

His cool professor gave him an A+ for this report.

Titanic:.... Cost - $29.99
Clinton   :..... Cost - $29.99

Titanic:...... Over 3 hours to read
Clinton   :..... Over 3 hours to read

Titanic:.... The story of Jack and Rose, their forbidden love, and subsequent catastrophe..
Clinton   :... The story of Bill and Monica, their forbidden love, and subsequent catastrophe.

Titanic:.... Jack is a starving artist.
Clinton   :..... Bill is a bullshit artist.

Titanic:..... In one scene, Jack enjoys a good cigar.
Clinton   :.... Ditto for Bill.

Titanic:..... During the ordeal, Rose's dress gets ruined.
Clinton   :..... Ditto for Monica.

Titanic:..... Jack teaches Rose to spit.
Clinton   :... Let's not go there.

Titanic:..... Rose gets to keep her jewelry.
Clinton   :.... Monica' s forced to return her gifts.

Titanic:...... Rose remembers Jack for the rest of her life.
Clinton   :......      Clinton   doesn't remember jack.

Titanic:..... Rose goes down on a vessel full of seamen.
Clinton   :...... Monica.. ooh, let's not go there, either.

Titanic:..... Jack surrenders to an icy death.
Clinton   :..... Bill goes home to Hillary - basically the same thing

Disclaimer: This is not my own work, I don't know where it originated. I don't mind Hillary Clinton.

2010 Stand Alone Book Challenge - SAB Challenge

Ok so I've realised that I read waaay too many book series. Not that that is a bad thing by any means, but even books that i don't realise are part of series. So I'm starting a challenge to read Stand Alone Books. SAB for short...i dont know why you would need to shorten it but yeah SAB Challenge.

So my goal is that by the end of the year i will have read 25 stand alone books. For those that may want to join, in the future (if this year is a success) it will run for the whole year. So for this year, seeing as it's early, we can just add in our January books as well.

Levels:
SAB-erful - 5 books
SAB-erific - 15 books
SAB-tastic - 25 books

Rules:
  • Well it's pretty simple, as long as it's stand alone it counts.
  • Re-reads are accepted
  • Books must be read in between 1/1/2010 and 31/12/2010
Have Fun!

Book Review: Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols

Review: Going Too Far
Author: Jennifer Echols
No. Of Pages: 245
Release Date: 17 March 2009

HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO?

All Meg has ever wanted is to get away. Away from high school. Away from her backwater town. Away from her parents who seem determined to keep her imprisoned in their dead-end lives. But one crazy evening involving a dare and forbidden railroad tracks, she goes way too far...and almost doesn’t make it back.

John made a choice to stay. To enforce the rules. To serve and protect. He has nothing but contempt for what he sees as childish rebellion, and he wants to teach Meg a lesson she won’t soon forget. But Meg pushes him to the limit by questioning everything he learned at the police academy. And when he pushes back, demanding to know why she won’t be tied down, they will drive each other to the edge – and over....

My Thoughts:

I absolutely LOVE this book!!!

This is by far the best book I have read in a long time. It is so unbelievably powerful.

We view the story from Meg’s point of view, she’s rebellious, she hates the rules and she does everything she can to break them. I can connect to Meg on so many levels that it’s almost scary because I have been there, and in some ways probably still am. Meg has issues yes and they are very real, explain a lot and create a powerful yet vulnerable character.

John doesn’t see it that way, he sees it as kids being reckless and breaking the rules for the sake of breaking the rules, and because of their own stupidity.

And so they are thrown together for a week’s ride doing Johns grave yard shift. John orchestrates it to teach Meg a lesson because he has his own lesson to teach from pain he has felt in the past. The banter that ensues is absolutely hilarious, Meg constantly questioning and John trying to be an intimidating cop.

We start to see changes in the way Meg thinks, and I love the occasional loathing of her blue hair. What once seemed a good idea, now just seems silly.

Meg grows so much during this book that it’s inspiring. John grows as well but as we are seeing his growth through Megs POV we don’t see it as dominantly as Meg’s.

The romance that buds between our main characters is beautiful. It isn’t rushed, and there is a lot of doubt and going out on limbs. I loved how Meg was attempting to convince herself that she was developing Stockholm syndrome instead of admitting that she was starting to crush on a police officer.

I also loved the fact that to get around Meg’s fear of commitment John would plan things without telling her and let her think that it was her idea. Of course she caught on after the fact, but it was still so beautiful to watch.

There aren’t enough words I can use to explain how much I love this book, how much I can connect with it. I still get butterflies when I think about Going Too Far, hell I’ve even got butterflies right now as I’m writing this, I will probably get them again when I post it and a million times after that when I see it on various pages it ends up on.

As soon as I finished it I had the urge to read it again, I still do now and I think it’s attempting to take up permanent residence on my bedside table just tempting me to pick it up and revisit the story of Meg and Johnafter.

I love this book so much and even if the idea of teen angst doesn’t appeal to you, I still implore you to pick it up because it is a story so touching, so moving and so unbelievably powerful that even a person who doesn’t cry often was brought to tears over.

Teaser Tuesdays - 16/2/2010

Currently Reading: The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger
"It's a terrific bore"

"Well, I don't exactly hate it. You always have to -"
"Well, I hate it. Boy do I hate it,"

Teaser Tuesday is the brainchild of Should Be Reading
