Is it just me? Smell Reminders

So I know I'm weird, but there is something about scent that triggers memories for me.

Now because I am a reader, a lot of my books have a certain memory attached to it and a certain smell.

So for example when I smell the beach, I am reminded of Robin Hobbs Liveship Trader series. When I smell my old perfume, I am reminded of Jeaniene Frosts Night Huntress series.

I just walked through a cloud of deodorant...and was reminded of my bookshelf.

Perhaps its because I keep my deodorant on my desk...which is right next to my bookshelf but the smell of deodorant makes me want to read...

Is it just me?: Reading in the bath...

So the other day I discovered something wonderful!

I was reading Dead as a Doornail (review went up yesterday) by Charlaine Harris, and as many of you may have noticed...once you get into them, they are very addictive!

I only had a few more chapters to go and I couldn't stand waiting until after dinner to finish it.

I was in the middle of running a bath and I thought to myself...might work...so just as an idea I snuck my book in with me.

It was AWESOME!!



Now I always thought that this:

But it was absolutely fine! And it was so relaxing!

I haven't felt so clean after a bath, probably because I haven't soaked in one for that long in ages. I am still more of a shower person than I am a bath person but baths just got that much more inviting!

I would say that if you are going to try this, make sure to keep a towel handy and to not use your most favourite can't stand to see the pages creased book but rather a well used paperback until you get the hang of reading in the bath.

But I can guarantee you it will be the most relaxing thing you do all day. Plus you're multi-tasking! Reading whilst getting clean!

Is It Just Me?: Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead

Is it just me? Or is this one of the uglier covers out there...

I really liked Succubus Blues, but this cover turned me off it for so long that it was sitting on my TBR pile for nearly a year before I picked it up. I am assuming that this is Georgina Kincaid on the cover...

And I am wondering if that is a real model or a fake one...

If you look closely:

• The necklace is askew
• her dress looks drawn on
• the hair looks painted/smudged on
• her lipstick has decided to make its own path which doesn't necessarily mean following the line of her lips
• and shes blue...

It makes me really sad because for people like me - and I know you're hiding out there - seeing this thing calling itself a cover turns me off a book. If i hadn't already been in love with Richelle Mead, I may not have picked this up of my own accord (which is how I still by a good deal of my books).

But I also see the original as the true cover for the first book in this series. I have grown to like it in it's own little way. But it is still a little cringe worthy if you look too closely.

Is it just me? Bloodthirsty by Flynn Meaney

Am I the only person who seems to have not heard of this book?!

Some vampires are good. Some are evil. Some are faking it to get girls.

How cute does this sound? It sounds like it might take a few cracks at Twilight as well...which I am always up for.

Is it just me? The Omen Machine by Terry Goodkind

The newest Richard and Kahlan novel! Coming 2011.

I am uber excited about this info! Although I only got halfway through The Sword of Truth Series I am restarting it and I was always sad to think the Confessor was the last book in the series because I absolutely love Richard and Kahlan.

Now finding out about The Omen Machine I am both excited and scared...because of the synopsis.

"An accident leads to the discovery of a mysterious machine that has rested hidden deep underground for countless millennia. The machine awakens to begin issuing a series of increasingly alarming, if minor, omens. The omens turn out to be astonishingly accurate, and ever more ominous. Is it just me or does that sound a bit like a Sci-Fi Novel?

I don't seem to remember there being any machines in the Sword of Truth world or it talking...

That was more Wizard of Oz type fantasy rather than Midland Fantasy.

Hopefully it will have a little more context once I get around to it...
