I loved the cheimstry! Denise had that vulnerable quality about her that made her think that Spade was such a worldy man who would never want anything to do with her. But she still didn't all out fight the attraction to him. The relationship built up very nicely, it wasn't rushed and it was also believable. The companionship that we see between the two was refreshing, and it was a huge tease as the feeling developed. Especially when Spade was in the shower...
Have you read the Cat & Bones series? Denise is such a different (wimpier) character than Cat... did that make a difference to you?
I will make no secret of the fact that Cat and Bones are my favourite pair. But to compare Cat and Denise in regards to wimpiness is not something that really can be done in my eyes. Cat has strength yes, she can beat up anything you throw at her, but she also has a weakness for gin. Denise is very strong minded though and I never saw her as a wimpy person in the first four books anyway. I will say that it felt weird when Cat showed up in FDOC and I wasn't reading from her point of view...it just felt wrong, but I reckon Denise is strong in her own way and being able to beat someone up has nothing to do with that.
LIGHTNING ROUND. Identify your top three favorite PNR series. "There are too many!" is not an answer. Neither is more than three. Name the top three. Ready.....go!
- Night Huntress Series (duh!)
- The Accidental Friends Series
- Black Dagger Brotherhood (granted I have only read one, but it was really really good.)
Sizzle or Fizzle? Sizzle ma nizzle fo' rizzle.

I've enjoyed the Cat and Bones books but haven't read FDOC yet. Need to get through some of my TBR pile before I buy any new ones.
My 3 favorite series are
Cat and Bones series
Lynsay Sands Aregenau series
Mercy Thompason series by Patricia Briggs (not sure if this counts as PNR)
Hallelujah, another Denise cheerleader! I agree, I don't think Denise came across as wimpy at all- I think she was just a gentle soul who got thrust into a dangerous world and was trying to make the best of things. I think comparing her and Cat would be like comparing apples and oranges- Cat may be "tougher" and more aggressive but I'll be frank, Cat doesn't understand people or relationships at all and I think the drama in Destined for an Early Grave kind of proves that. Denise might never be a fighter but she certainly knows how to be in a relationship with someone.
I haven't read this series but looks like I must. I love urban fantasy and this sounds fantastic!
