Question: When you are called a nerd for loving books, how do you feel?
Answer: I used to feel embarrased, but now I just feel annoyed, and sorry for the people who think its ok to make fun of people's hobbies. You don't see me making fun of your 8 hour a day Call of Duty addiction. I more feel upset at the lack of respect rather than being put down for reading.
I have been made fun of for reading for most of my life so now I'm used to it (sad aye?) but I still feel sorry for people who think that reading is something to be made fun of, I;m not saying you have to love it, I'm just saying...each to their own.

I know exactly how you feel! I used to be embarrassed, but now I just don't care if anyone calls me out on reading so much.
All my friends know I love to read, but they usually get a little 'Not again!' when I obsess over a book!
Same here. I just can't stand people who make fun of me because I love to read instead of sitting infront of the televison all day long.
I don't understand why they always have to make such a big thing about me reading. It's none of their business what I do in my spare time. They just shouldn't care about the things I do. It starts annoying me -.-
At least I have many understanding friends and s few of them love reading aswell.
@sanny: i know right? why is it such a big deal to read but its not a big deal to lose sleep from watching so much tv..
it really doesnt make sense.
I feel a twinge of irritation because people mean it as an insult, but honestly it doesn't really bother me because I am a nerd and proud of it.
It's been a while since anyone made fun of me for reading, not since I first got published. It's funny how that somehow justifies my hobby. Whatever, opinions are like anuses, right? ;-)
Haven't been made fun of for reading since I was a little kid. Although I did work with someone about 6 years ago who thought I was weird for reading --- she admitted she never read anything more than a magazine once in a while (I felt sorry for her).
Lucky for me, I'm a librarian now, so it's expected that I read a lot. :) I have never judged people by how much (or what) they read, although I feel a bit sorry for people who tell me they don't like to read, or think reading is boring.
